Walmart Wins & the Nighthawk Foundation

Categorized as Uncategorized

I had a show Friday night in Seymour, Indiana at the Starlight Lounge. With me was journeyman Erik Monical, originally from Alton, IL. Unfortunately for us, the main entertainment in town on Friday nights, is Walmart, so my show came in 2nd place in attendance. We performed for 4 1/2 people, essentially the family of the person that booked me. The “1/2 person” was someone who kept getting up to wait on people, since she was on the clock. Regardless of audience size, I still had fun. On the way down, we stopped in Indianapolis, at the famed Shapiro’s deli for a pastrami sandwich.

I received a call from Henry Sembdner, early Friday morning, from the Nighthawk Foundation. They are a non-profit organization, comprised of all volunteers, who help out disadvantaged children (nighthawkfoundation.org). Henry explained that a high percentage of donations goes straight to children in need, which is what you want to see when you’re donating money. He explained that the featured entertainment had backed out at the last minute, and they needed a replacement. I’d previously been booked on the date, but it got cancelled, so I was happy to oblige. I’m glad I did, cause they were a great crowd and were very appreciative of our efforts. I’d brought along rookie sensation Anthony Bonozzo with me to break the ice, and he did just that.
